Josie Leonard has line produced numerous high profile spots during her career, including those for Nike (starring Michael Jordan), Gatorade (starring Derek Jeter), Infinity, Toyota, Nissan, Chrysler, Ford, the U.S. Postal Service, VISA, Mastercard, American Express, and many others. In addition she has also been director David Denneen’s line producer for the past 15 years.
A native New Yorker, Josie Leonard grew up in a family immersed in Manhattan’s Fashion Industry — her grandfather and uncle were the financial backers behind the renowned Oscar de la Renta , Halston and Geoffrey Beene fashion lines.
After attending NYU, Leonard entered the business side of the fashion industry herself. She served as National Sales Manager first for JH Collectibles, and later for CeeG/ee Sue Wong, an acclaimed fashion dress designer, and for sports wear designer, Joanie Char.
Relocating to Los Angeles, Leonard met Jon Straub, a noted Prop Master for numerous Hollywood productions, whom she later married. Working briefly with Straub in the world of props, she decided she’d rather become involved on the production side, and contacted every Production Manager she could find. Quickly working her way up the ladder, on a freelance basis, from Production Assistant to Production Coordinator to Production Manager to Producer, Leonard earned a stellar reputation throughout the So. California commercial industry.
While based for a number of years as a Producer with Form, Leonard met, and often collaborated on projects with, Executive Producer Sheila Tighe. The women felt that by joining forces, their partnership could result in an ideal company specializing in global commercial production. The genesis of City Films began in 2010, with the company coming to fruition a year later.
Today, Leonard and her husband Jon, now the owner of a successful IT Business, live in Beverly Hills, CA.
